The "main menu" at the top of the page can have any background color you want. The color configuration can be done very easily from backend > customizer, see image below
The header section, where the mainmenu and the logo is stored can have their own background image or background color. The background configuration can be done from Joomla Template options.
Each section, where the modules are stored can have their own background image with Parallax effect. Parallax is an effect where the background content or image in this case, is moved at a different speed than the foreground content while scrolling.
Sections are: top-a, top-b, top-c, top-d, bottom-a, bottom-b, bottom-c, bottom-d
